My obituary of Robert Butler, the pioneer of new attitudes toward aging, is in today's Guardian, you can link to it here. The linkage of Butler's life as a child and his amazing career as a researcher, writer, activist, and administrator was very touching, and a tribute in itself to both him and his grandparents. It makes me remember the importance of my own grandparents, and regret the fact that my son never got to meet his American grandparents, and that his New Zealand ones are so far away.I will also admit that Butler's landmark book Sex After Sixty is starting to look far more important to me now than it did when it was published 35 years ago....
